Nutritionist

This Nutritionist position (three positions will be filled) is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Human Resources Management, Occupational Safety and Health, located in:

·       Glynco, GA

·       Albuquerque, NM,

·       Artesia, NM

·       El Paso, TX

 Duties:

This Nutritionist position serves as a headquarters' technical authority in nutrition, providing expert consultation and services in the development, implementation, oversight, and evaluation of CBP basic training programs, national initiatives, and field operations to reduce the frequency and severity of physical training and work-related injuries and to improve the overall health and performance of the workforce. This position starts at a salary of $106,437.00.

Typical duties include:

• Serving as an expert in the field of nutrition science, providing evidence-based expertise and advice to multiple CBP academy physical exercise and physical training programs, as well as to academy administrative and operational field locations.
• Reviewing the nutritional performance requirements of trainees and incumbents through careful evaluation of academy training curricula and incumbents' work requirements.
• Representing Occupational Safety and Health Division management officials in briefings to CBP academy administration and training staff, CBP headquarters, related DHS components, and other Federal agency officials, as appropriate.
• Providing professional leadership and program direction in administration, practices, education, and research related to nutrition as an integral component of a national safety and health program.
• Developing standards, policies, guidelines, and criteria concerning the delivery of nutrition-related education and services.

Salary and Benefits:

This position starts at a salary of $106,437.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $138,370.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $138,370.00 (GS-13, Step 10).

 Qualifications:

 Basic Requirement: You must provide supporting documentation in your application to show you meet one of the basic requirements below:

• Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science.
• Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists.
• Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

 You qualify for this position if you meet the basic requirements listed above and possess the experience, as described below.

Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:

• Creating research studies and assessments, and drawing conclusions from compiled raw data to improve nutrition habits and physical performance of targeted working groups.
• Presenting, educating, and counseling on evidence-based nutrition topics to diverse groups of employees and leaders from different backgrounds and varying levels of skill sets.
• Making recommendations to improve human health and performance and physical training effectiveness, reduce injuries, and promote recovery.
• Developing nutrition policy for an organization.
