Los Angeles County Probation (LACP) is hiring dedicated individuals to serve as sworn Peace Officers who play a critical role in transforming lives and strengthening communities.
As a Deputy Probation Officer I, you’ll:
- Support and guide youth in juvenile halls and residential treatment facilities.
- Build trust and inspire change through consistent casework and mentorship.
- Identify life skills needs and help youth reach their full potential.
- Apply evidence-based practices to support rehabilitation and growth of youth.
- Help maintain safety, order, and dignity through professional conduct and, when necessary, physical intervention.

Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
- At least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
- No felony convictions.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.
- Possess a valid California Class C Driver License at the time of appointment.

The Los Angeles County Probation Department (LACPD) is currently the largest probation services agency in the United States. Two-thirds of the Department’s staff are sworn officers.
The LACPD supervises state parolees in the California Prison Realignment Plan. In addition, adult probationers are supervised at offices throughout Los Angeles County.
LACPD supervises at-home probation youth through the Placement Services program including probation foster youth and probation youth living in group homes.
We lead the way in providing cutting-edge juvenile residential treatment services with the creation and implementation of the “L.A. Model” at Campus Kilpatrick in Malibu.
The L.A. County Probation Department has worked to build a foundation of trust with community groups, stakeholders, and agencies to carry out the mission of the Department to operate sustainable and ongoing public safety initiatives for juvenile and adult probation services in the County.
We have numerous facilities throughout the county to serve those who are currently on probation in Los Angeles.
We focus on public education and awareness to foster a good understanding of Department operations through proactive communication and engagement linkages. The Los Angeles County Probation Department’s objective is to develop an environment within the County where communities can participate in our efforts to rebuild lives and sustain healthy families.
