Position Summary

Odyssey Systems has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Writer providing support to the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center/Airborne Warning and Control System (AFLCMC/HBS/WIW). The Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) Division, has the collective Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) mission responsibility to deliver airborne Battle Management Command & Control (BMC2) capabilities that support joint, allied, coalition, humanitarian, and homeland defense operations. Modernization efforts enable continued involvement with worldwide operations by revitalizing legacy mission systems, replacing aging computer architectures, integrating multi‑sensor data fusion, and improving global expeditionary readiness and availability. Additionally, the Division assists in the planned divestiture of the E‑3 platform and in shaping development of follow‑on capabilities for future airborne C2 systems.

 

This is a full time Hybrid position located at Tinker AFB, OK.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Prepare original technical papers, manuals, policies, specifications, and reports in scientific, technical, or professional fields.

  • Write and edit user documentation, how-to guides, instruction manuals, procedures, and training materials.

  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, user-friendly documentation tailored to specific audiences.

  • Ensure documents meet agency style, formatting, tone, and accuracy standards.

  • Analyze drawings, specifications, test results, mock-ups, and other inputs to develop or update content.

  • Collaborate with engineers, program managers, vendors, and customer representatives to define technical specifications.

  • Maintain and organize an electronic library of signed documents and final presentations.

  • Ensure consistency and clarity across related documents, including citation of sources and generation of tables of contents.

  • Conduct final reviews for layout, grammar, and editorial quality before release.

  • Support document revisions, version control, and coordination of different editions as needed.

  • Use Microsoft Office and desktop publishing software for content creation, layout, and formatting.

Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen

 

Minimum Required Qualifications

Clearance:  Must hold an active Secret clearance 

 

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 3 years of experience in the respective technical/professional discipline being performed, 3 of which must be in the DoD OR

    • 7 years of directly related experience, 5 of which must be in the DoD

Technical Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in technical writing within DoD information systems, business systems, or defense-related environments, translating complex concepts into clear and actionable documentation.
  • Proficiency in developing and maintaining a wide range of technical documents, including user guides, instruction manuals, policies, procedures, specifications, marketing materials, and technical reports.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret technical drawings, specifications, mockups, product samples, and engineering documentation to create accurate and comprehensive content.
  • Experience ensuring compliance with document formatting standards, version control requirements, source citation practices, and document management procedures.
  • Skilled in creating supporting visual content such as charts, graphs, tables, forms, and presentation materials to enhance technical communication and user understanding.
  • Strong editing and quality assurance capabilities with expertise in grammar, consistency, document reviews, and standardization across multiple publications.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook, for document development, collaboration, and document repository management.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to gather, organize, and present information clearly for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong relationship-building abilities with experience collaborating effectively with customers, program managers, engineers, subject matter experts, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, ensuring document accuracy, consistency, and compliance with established standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while meeting deadlines in fast-paced and dynamic project environments.
  • Proactive self-starter with the initiative to independently research, develop, and update documentation with minimal supervision.
  • Adaptable and professional team player who works effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, disciplines, and geographic locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate stakeholder feedback, navigate complex review cycles, and maintain positive working relationships while delivering high-quality documentation.

Please note: Final compensation for this position will be determined by various factors such as the Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant work experience, specific skills and competencies, geographic location, education, and certifications.
